A Sticky Situation- Ferris Wheel

                   Sticky Situation

I really enjoyed brainstorming for this project, but I got so many great ideas that it was difficult to choose which to do.  I went with the idea to interpret a sticky situation in the non literal sense, and thought of things that I was scared of. Strangely, one of my greatest fears are Ferris wheels. I don't like heights, but I really don't like slowly rising up to the top and looking down at everything below. I combined my fear of Ferris wheels to my fear of sinking/drowning and put an ocean in the backround. The Ferris wheel looks almost as if it's sinking into the ocean, and it perfectly captures my fear.

     My use of repetition is very obvious in this project, and the systematic lay out of Ferris wheels contains many patterns such as the lights, and the carts.  I enjoyed this painting, however it is not one of my best paintings.  I think this project would have been more successful if I had chosen a scene with less patterns because is would have been able to put more interesting ideas into the painting

Using the acrylic paint was a challenge because of how quickly it dried. It was very difficult for me to get everything done before it dried and it was too late to fix any mistakes. Overall I enjoyed painting with acrylics. 

Up Close and Personal

               Up Close and Personal

     For this project, I used a lot of creativity and all of the ideas for the colors and shapes of the animals  and backround came from my own mind. I didn't really use a guide with this project, and that's what I enjoyed the most about it. I put everything where I wanted it and how I wanted it, and although it didn't end up perfect, I really love how it turned out. 

   A challenge I faced in this project was making the bird look realistic, and making it look like it is pitched on the bowl. There were not many pictures of a bird perching on a fishbowl online, so using my own mind to decide the angle the bird would be at was rather difficult. I improvised, and erased many times when drawing the bird until it ended up in a position that I was satisfied with. 

      As far as deciding the colors, I wanted to show off a tropical feel with the piece. I feel that this was a very unique decision because it's abnormal to see a fishbowl out in a tropical forest, but I went with it. I tried to make the piece very bright and pleasant to look at while using tropical influences. The bird,fish, and plants are based off of tropical animals. I loved this project because my drawing is almost all from my own creativity, but the influences found in the art help tie in together to make it even better.

Soda Can, Lollipop, Candy Mini Projects

               

                Soda Can 

I had a huge challenge using the oil pastels. They were very hard for me to mix, and I had a difficult part of the can to draw. On the can, the man was not obviously drawn, but white spots were used to create the image of one. I originally tried to recreate that, but I wasn't able to. I'm happy with the shape of the can, but if I could, I would redo the project and not make the oil pastels as thick.

I feel that this was the most successful mini project of the three for me. I tried to shade the lollipop and make it look 3D, and although I could've done more, I'm still satisfied with the final outcome. Colored pencils are very easy for me to use and I feel I have the most control over them. 

 

                         Candy

I feel that this project is good, but it could be improved. I'm happy with my blending, and the chalk pastels were rather easy to use. The only thing I had a problem with was the wrapper. One side ended up much better than the other, so I wish I could go back and lighten up the part of the wrapper I went too dark on. Overall, I enjoyed this project and I liked using the new medium.

Art 2 Project 1 Theme Scientific

When given the theme scientific, I immediately thought of doctors. I chose hospitals as one of my final ideas, but then I took another path. I branched out from thinking about doctors and hospitals to think about illness and disaster itself. I played with the idea of drawing an atomic bomb explosion, but then I decided that capturing the aftermath of disaster would be more influential. I got the idea to use a gas mask, as it wasn't impossible for me to draw and it clearly showed the aftermath of a bomb. I felt prepared for this project because the mini projects helped me be more aware of my shading. I used hatching in my final project, creating a lot of contrast in my drawing. I used contrast to make the distance clear in the drawing; the gas mask was the darkest area, and this helped draw attention to it. For my project, I used sketching pencils and hatching techniques. I took a risk with using a lot of contrast in my drawing. I worried that using very dark shades would be difficult to erase if I made a mistake, or that the darkness would overshadow the rest of the drawing. Overall, I feel very proud of the result.  I was surprised at how well the shading turned out, and I didn't expect my final outcome to be as good as it is. I liked the prompt because I could do almost anything I wanted with it, and it was fun for me to try out different ideas with the sketches. I am very happy with the final draft. 

Light Drawing

We did Maryilin Monroe for our lighting drawing project. It was difficult to get the right about of light on me, and our problem was that we were trying to put too much light on me.  We wanted to do the hair, the mole, and the dress so that people would know who she was, but we couldn't do all of them.  I think it worked out pretty good, but there are some obvious line mess ups in the picture due to too much light.

Paintings of Italy

I loved when we painted in class because it was more creative than other things we've done. The painting is of a beach in Naples, Italy, where I've been several times.  It would be very hot, calm, and quiet in the painting.  There would be the sounds of the waves hitting the rocks and all else would be eerily silent on the boat.  The day would be completely care free.  I presented this in the painting by using light blue and calm colories in the sky in water; the colors bring a calm feeling into the painting.  I didn't use any sharp shapes in the nature, but it is shown in the boat.  That shows that the nature is peaceful and soft compared to what humanity brings.  I used a circular motion while creating the moutains and used a larger brush to create an airy feeling to the clouds.  The water was painted with horizontal strokes.

Today we made these flowers in Adobe. I liked Adobe Illustrator alot better than photoshop because it just seemed alot simpler to me.  It was an easy and quick assignment for me that I enjoyed.  It was fun to play around with the colors and effects to see which I liked the best.
