Relief

This was the hardest mini lesson for me simply because of the x-acto knives. I hate working with dry mediums and I hated scraping through the cardboard. I feel that the final result is good, however the process was tedious. 

To me, the clay tile mini lesson was pretty easy and fun because it was on a flat surface, which is easiest for me, and I enjoy working with clay. I liked my idea for this lesson and it was enjoyable to create. My biggest challenges with this lesson was the dryness of the clay, and I failed to smooth the clay at the end. 

My final piece was inspired by the theme Human and Nature.

How did you use your own unique ideas in your work?

I've always been fascinated by the human heart and doodle it all over my papers. I wanted to combine human and nature in a creative way, and when I sketched my project it came out just as I imagined it. The heart was drawn to resemble a rose, to be a heart/flower in a vase. 

What is this art intended to say? 

When I was creating this piece, I did it with the idea in mind of the connection humans have with nature. I didn't want to simply mush together a human and nature theme, so I used the idea of the heart, a symbol for human capacity for love and soul, to combine with a plant that lacked that capability. The work is intended to show the contrast between intelligent life and nonintelligent life, while highlighting the greater beauty in a simpler life form that cannot be achieved by humans alone.

Sculpture Assignment 1

Ronit Baranga is an Isreali artist born in 1973. He enjoys flirting with the idea of desire and disgust, and he also is intrigued with the blurred lines between still life, and life. I really like his work because it is something that requires you to look twice at each piece of his work.  He catches viewers by surprise with his strange work, and I think that's something worth praising. His work is kind of creepy, but that's what makes it interesting. It's a unique type of sculpture that is mean to stick out at you. 

Multi Media Project

This was a really interesting project for me. I chose to do a combination of the themes fear and fantasy because I thought I could find many ways to incorporate   different media into a more unique theme. I chose to work with the idea of a split world, a dark mask do light side with some sort of creepy characters. I used the chair to symbolize the isolation of people caught between the good and the evil. The risks I took with this project was using watercolor, gel and acrylic on canvas all together. I wasn't sure if it'd work out or look like nothing belonged together, but now that I finished, I feel that everything blended together like I hoped. I also was worried about gluing the puzzle pieces on the canvas to serve as clouds because I thought they may look misplaced. I think everything flows together and the multi media is a success. 

I intend for this artwork to point out the different ways of viewing good and bad in the world, and the in between. The art piece shows the confusion and eeriness between the fine lines of good and evil. 

I belive that my ideas are unique and original. I only pulled from my imagination when creating my project, and it paid off well. Throughout the year, this has been the most creative piece I made. I played around with many ideas, but used my color schemes and trees and the quick transition between worlds to clearly show my meaning and artistic message. 

A Sticky Situation- Ferris Wheel

                   Sticky Situation

I really enjoyed brainstorming for this project, but I got so many great ideas that it was difficult to choose which to do.  I went with the idea to interpret a sticky situation in the non literal sense, and thought of things that I was scared of. Strangely, one of my greatest fears are Ferris wheels. I don't like heights, but I really don't like slowly rising up to the top and looking down at everything below. I combined my fear of Ferris wheels to my fear of sinking/drowning and put an ocean in the backround. The Ferris wheel looks almost as if it's sinking into the ocean, and it perfectly captures my fear.

     My use of repetition is very obvious in this project, and the systematic lay out of Ferris wheels contains many patterns such as the lights, and the carts.  I enjoyed this painting, however it is not one of my best paintings.  I think this project would have been more successful if I had chosen a scene with less patterns because is would have been able to put more interesting ideas into the painting

Using the acrylic paint was a challenge because of how quickly it dried. It was very difficult for me to get everything done before it dried and it was too late to fix any mistakes. Overall I enjoyed painting with acrylics. 

Up Close and Personal

               Up Close and Personal

     For this project, I used a lot of creativity and all of the ideas for the colors and shapes of the animals  and backround came from my own mind. I didn't really use a guide with this project, and that's what I enjoyed the most about it. I put everything where I wanted it and how I wanted it, and although it didn't end up perfect, I really love how it turned out. 

   A challenge I faced in this project was making the bird look realistic, and making it look like it is pitched on the bowl. There were not many pictures of a bird perching on a fishbowl online, so using my own mind to decide the angle the bird would be at was rather difficult. I improvised, and erased many times when drawing the bird until it ended up in a position that I was satisfied with. 

      As far as deciding the colors, I wanted to show off a tropical feel with the piece. I feel that this was a very unique decision because it's abnormal to see a fishbowl out in a tropical forest, but I went with it. I tried to make the piece very bright and pleasant to look at while using tropical influences. The bird,fish, and plants are based off of tropical animals. I loved this project because my drawing is almost all from my own creativity, but the influences found in the art help tie in together to make it even better.
